Zocalo Community Development
News People About Zocalo

Community Building – The built environment – locally-produced and contextually-sensitive – embodies Zocalo’s commitment to community development.

This integrative process starts at the time of concept design, in consultation and exploration with proximate property owners, residents and neighborhood groups. By partnering with the neighborhood, Zocalo’s projects are able to reflect the fabric of the existing community while, in turn, helping the neighborhood to realize the built environment to which it aspires.

By purchasing as many locally-produced components of our buildings as we are able, we assist and strengthen the local economy while simultaneously reducing environmental and transportation costs. Zocalo generally exceeds the requirements of Denver’s Inclusionary Housing Ordinance, providing ownership opportunities for Denver’s workforce, a group virtually priced out of ownership in Central Denver.

By formulating and participating in Denver Mayor Hickenlooper’s Minority Developer Mentor Program, we ensure that we create opportunities for women and minorities who have historically been under-represented in the real estate development industry.
